There never was and never will be freedom in any form of society - a blunt example is the act of murder... Has there ever been a society in which one can kill someone that one would rather have rid of? No... so freedom is inhibited, if you wanted to do that you could not.

Having any law means freedom is outlawed, because freedom is anarchy. Of course there is a gradient from anarchy to totalitarianism...which way is the ball rolling at present? One might ask.

In 2006, Labour had brought in over 3,000 new laws (I'm not sure what the figure is now - I was only prepared to research it for a couple of mins and couldn't find it)

I wonder which way the ball is rolling? Let me think!

If the next government has good intentions then it will take a lot of time to reverse this ridiculous trend.

which ever government is in power will continue this trend, id cards probably only a matter of time, DNA data base etc...Labour followed on from Tory Criminal Justice Bill with Anti Terror bill..spot the difference, more state control less freedom for all. These bills smuggle in loads of less obvious public order stuff which curtail our freedom to protest, party, travel, gather, dissent, and do anything other than mindlessly consume until we die. dare to be different, dare to think, dare to speak out...then there will be files on you! freedom my ass.

The answer is obviously to vote for me!
My policies include;
* Legalisation of all drugs
* Immediate halt to ID card, road pricing and other mass-surveillance plans
* Immediate construction of nuclear, wind and tide power
* Bigger, faster motorways, with overhead cables for ELECTRIC LORRIES
* High-speed rail network
* Coppers, not cameras
* Removal from the database, and no more collection, of DNA samples where no crime has been proven in court
* Mandatory 'Net neutrality' - it will be illegal for ISPs or anyone else to filter internet connections in any way
* UK constitution, including rights to free speech, assembly, ability of the population to demand elections or referenda in prescribed circumstances

... and more

WHOS WITH ME?

Agreed - Our freedoms are, and have been, being eroded for some time now...Not that we have ever been really free, but things are deffo going the wrong way.

I think that whatever his motivation, one does have to give him a certain amount of respect for drawking attention to these issues. The Labour Party and sympathetic press are trying to create the impression of a 'rift' in the Conservatives because of this- what a load of abject bollocks; they party has opposed the 42-day detention from day one, and today there is news that they would (will?) reduce it below the current 28 days if they come into power.
