I was looking round the internet whilst exceptionally angry about fuel and found this:
http://www.motorsickle.com/drivers.html

At the time of writing the cheapest fuel available around here is now £1.139 /litre, and rising. Remember that over HALF of this price is still TAX, regardless or rising oil prices. Thanks to VAT, the tax taken also rises with the price.
Ignore the twats that tell you "well the percentage of tax has been falling.."- the AMOUNT of tax PER LITRE has been rising, which is what you care about.

It's about time we all did something about the skyrocketing cost of living- even if you don't drive the price of fuel affects you too; everything you buy travels by lorry so the price of diesel directly affects the price of food and other goods you buy. Diesel is now around £1.30/litre, and many smaller hauliers are on the brink of going out of business due to the cost. I myself run a fleet of vans and diesel now costs us an EXTRA £1,000 per month compared to last year.

The government still plans to increase fuel duty by 2p/litre this october, on top of the 15p it has already risen this year, and they also currently plan to continue raising duty after this. Also remember the massive rises in Vehicle Excise Duty ('Road tax') due next year- mine goes up from £210 to over £300. Mad

Thats why I'm posting details of this protest. Remember the road pricing petition last year? That has kicked the plans into the long grass for a long while yet- only Manchester is proceeding with relatively minor plans, and the other councils have flatly rejected it. We can do the same with fuel duty.

NATIONAL FUEL PROTESTS on SUNDAY 22nd JUNE at MIDDAY

IN EVERY MAJOR CITY

And spread the word

See you there.

i would limit production on 4x4s and excessively juicy motors, just a quicker way to fuck the planet, offer car share schemes & have a full integrated transport policy, uber cheap rail options for all...were a small over polluted world, the futures so far up in smoke, so whats the plan guys, whats the bigger picture here? Bio Diesel and limiting your consumption of resources 4 a start.

Twats also eat food. Maybe shops should stop selling food and then all of the twats would die!

My point is that just because a small number of people that do something are twats, that doesn't mean that it's fair to stop everyone else from doing it.

If you want your cost of living to go up, then I'll be happy to take some money off your hands Very Happy

Sounds more sensible Very Happy although I'm not sure about bio-diesel myself as it drives up the price of food. I think cleaner transport is needed, such as hydrogen powered vehicles which are very clean. This is unfortunately unlikely to happen until greedy oil companies and governements manage to get all of the profit they can make from oil.

Electrifying the motorways wouldn't be too hard and would be a good start. The railways have overhead electric cables, doing the same on the major motorways would allow electric buses and lorries to operate, vastly saving on fuel and pollution. The vehicles would have a battery for short stints off the cable, and a normal engine for non-motorway driving.

It is ABSOLUTELY correct that we need effective, cheap and clean public transport. Fares have been rising far above the rate of inflation, with service cuts as well in most areas outside London. It is a bit rich to implore people not to drive without them having any alternative.

Biodiesel is a complicated issue as at the moment it uses up resources that could be used for food, in part causing the recent increases in food prices. It does however need further research, as technology involving oil-producing algae looks promising.

Long term electric or hydrogen vehicles are the answer. Public transport at its best is only really useful for certain predictable journies in big cities, so we will need cars (however they are powered) for a very long time yet.

What is absolutely NOT fair or right is taxing millions of ordinary people for trying to get to work. Several years ago, it was reported that lower-paid working families spend around a quarter of their income on essential motoring. How much are they spending now? Fuel duty, although a useful tax for controlling oil consumption is still massively too high considering the current mraket price of oil, and is causing real pain to people who due to poor government policy have no real alternative.

In a modern open-market capitalist society, entrepreneurs get rich and the poor get better off as a result -- OF COURSE they're not going to get as rich as fast (duh). So, of course the gap thereby gets wider - but the top AND BOTTOM of the gap both rise to levels much higher than before. The gap is widening?? Well, hooray for everyone’s sake! ESPECIALLY the poor!

If the rich weren’t free to "get ever richer," developing or investing in ever-increasing productivity, the poor would NEVER have any chance to improve their conditions at all, let alone to obtain their ever-increasing access to the latest tools of that expanding productivity, making every hour of their labor ever-more valuable. And YOU wouldn't EVER have the chance to read this or anything else brought to you by advanced technology. Laughing
