Ez friends!

It's me Zerostar here, writing you all from the US.

I have a few questions for all DJs, Producers, Mixers ECT.

You see....Listening to UKBR and other mis. djs, dnb, jungle, you name it over the past 2 years, I feel like I've really developed a passion for the creation of music. I really want to get in to mixing, and also the creation of beats but I'm so lost, and when I try and look up information, it seems like everyone here in the US is as lost as I am. So, to make it easy on you all, I'm going to block each question with a bullet! If ye can't help me I understand, but it would be appreciated.

Ok FIRST QUESTION!

1.) What Hardware <-- Prefered / Software to I need to start mixing my own beats?

Just what I need to to make my own I guess. What I've come up with is I need a "groove box"? Not sure what that is but a really popular one seems to be KORG EMX-1.

2.) What exactly does the groovebox do?

I kind of understand it completely manipulates songs and samples and puts them together for use. I don't understand, how to get samples on it, and how you would use the on board synth that it has on it to make a melody and beats.

3.) How do I get samples, and how do I get them to the groove box?

I think I understand a little bit about samples, you can make your own or buy them? Does your grovebox have a bank of them? Do you manipulate them on a PC?

I guess I'll post some more questions of mine later. I have plenty! I want to start making my own stuff, so one day I can make a track for Overload that maybe will make it to UKBR! If not, I want to make this a life time hobby, it's something I really want to do, and something I really want to sacrifice my time for, for my own interest Very Happy and to share my beats with whoever gives a damn!

Also, if you can recommend a website, maybe a beginners guide or something that answers all my questions that would be awesome.

Love your friend,
Zerostar!

EZ mate,

What you need for an entry level production system is Propellerheads Reason, this come with everything you need to get quickly into the nitty gritty of producing. You get a drum machine, a couple of samplers, a couple of synths and a load of fx, plus some sounds come bundled with the package but you'll find that these have been hammered by everyone with a copy. To get some original samples then go here http://www.dogsonacid.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=4 its a very good production forum with loads of free samples and some very good production advice.

Hope this helps man

PEACE

The Illusionist

Thankyou! So do they make a hardware? Or is this software only? I'm interested in both. Thankyou so much, I've never seen this site before.

You dont really need any hardware in this day and age, software will do. Its really up to your own personel preferance.

My advice would be to try out different bits of software and find one which suits your workflow and your comfortable with.

I downloaded a demo for Reason 4. However I'm having trouble finding out how to make sound come out of all this software... Do I need to have a synth plugged into my PC in order to use this?

To make sound come out of Reason, you need to have a midi keyboard so you can play the sounds you have dialed into the synyhs/samplers within the software.
Check out some m-audio keyboards as i have never had a problem with them.
