Nice.
This thread is still rippin shit
It's hard to tell where to start a rant here - everyone has been bringing up such outrageously profound insights....
So I'll stray off-topic for just long enough to clear up an unfortunate mistake - When I first registered a username here, I was utterly certain I wouldn't be the first Justin, so I figured stick a 69 on there - better than being justin47 or something..... So: Simply justin is cool....
Anyway - CJ has consistently stayed one step ahead of even my deepest thoughts - and has brought up another great point, in mentioning language and communication - Reminds me of something my sister said to me a while back.
She asked me, one time, if I thought perhaps the spider may be my animal totem... SPIDER!? Ug no, I hope not. She went on to explain that it was for me a possibility - I love language and enjoy writing - and the spider - the weaver - in some opinions, can be traced straight to the root of communication... I can see it - Early man huntin around for a mastadon bone to beat down dinner with - encounters a spider web - sees one long thread woven into a finished product, begins to understand that thoughts as well will string together to form something whole, and along with that comes of course the desire to express said thoughts - and language is born.
And evolves.
In my opinion, the desire to communicate largely influenced the development of the brain....
But why have we stopped evolving? The human body is pretty well dialed-in, and aside from us getting perhaps a few inches taller over the centuries, we seem to have mebbe plateaued, at least physically...
I am convinced that we continue our evolution within the mind, and are about overdue for the next step - which - like CJ said - is likely to happen in the form of a higher level of communication.
Me? I'm sick of using only 10% of my brain....
Oh and this goes out to Jimmuz - hypnotism indeed. Much more common than many realize. Hell, truth be told, most of us hypnotize ourselves at least daily. It's true. Anyone who has ever zoned their way through a familiar drive knows the feeling. Or mowing the lawn, or doing dishes, any repetetive task that we are familiar with is likely to lull us into an alpha state or so, and yes, this is a form of self-hypnosis...
