Disable quartz lock on Technics 1210 / 1200 Mk2

Most DJs that use Technics 1210s will know that the pitch can get a bit messy around the green light. This is because the quartz lock kicks in when you hit the green light. It is very easy to disable this, there are other tutorials on the net but they often include useless steps that in my opinion you don't need to do.

Step 1
UNPLUG your deck. You don't want an electric shock, they're not very nice - trust me Shocked

Step 2
Take the slipmat and platter off the deck. To do that, simply grab the platter using the two holes and pull directly off the deck. You may need to be quite firm, if you've never had to do that before then the platter may be stuck down quite hard.

Step 3
There is a plastic cover that you will need to remove using the 5 screws around the edge as shown in this pic
(click pics for large image)

Step 4
On the right side of the circuit board, there is a black plug with 4 wires (black, red, orange, yellow). Cut the orange wire, don't cut it too close to the plug just in case you want to reconnect it in the future Wink

Step 5
Screw the plastic cover back on and replace the platter and slipmat.

Now you are done. When you are mixing around the green light, the quartz lock won't activate (the green light will still show).

To re-enable the quartz lock, simply follow the above steps but reconnect the orange wire with a cable connector, or even a switch of some description so you can turn it on and off.

This is unlikely to break your decks, it worked fine with mine but if you do break something don't blame me Mr. Green

Edited lol

I should probably point out that my decks are Mk2 not Mk5 - I think Technics sorted the problem out on Mk5s so don't do it if you have them Shocked

There is a way to get rid of the click as well but I have a feeling that it involves taking the whole deck apart to get the slider out and you can break the slider doing it lol
