Ok. Hey guys, I was wondering if any producers who use Reason 4 as the main 'base' for their music making setup like I do knew of a way to make sikk wobbling 'womping' style basses??
These are 2 examples of the sort of bassline I would like to make. Someone told me the only way to make those sort of sounds is to use NI's MASSIVE plugin, but thats 200 quid I have not got to spend on music stuff.
Been making little Dnb tunes for myself to play and mix with but am finding it hard to make these sort of sounds, and I do not want to use samples (not that those sort of sounds are actually available anywhere to buy..) plus I believe it's much better to not be lazy and to actually create a synth setup to make the desired sound..
Can anyone please help!! Its been driving me mad.. Nice one guys n gals
I don't use reason and my girl will vouch for that. You get what you pay for. Good hardware/software is the snip snap sack.
proper compression will "womp" you all day long, make sure there's room for your bassline in the mix, all tones have thier place but there's no rules at the same time. If you're clipping the master and flooding out then try turning each track down -10db so there's room for everything

Nice one Reaferside. Yeah I know that you do get what you pay for. Problem is it costs sooo much to get hooked up with the latest hardware / software. I used to have an EMU Orbit years ago and that was the nuts but I had to get rid of what I had to make space.. Been hitting Reason pretty hard & got some good sounds out of it, but not what I am looking for. I have now learnt it's limitations, although as a virtual studio kind of package it is very good & it's pianos and strings are second to none that I have heard before. Keep on trying I guess, and in the end you will get there. I know compression is key to making bouncing basslines that get up all over teh place but again I think the reason compression unit isn't all that good sometimes. My mate has a compressor in his studio and I can tweak that and make it sound really phat, and am having trouble with it on reason, but thank you for your reply mate, and hope to speak to you again soon. in the event that u cant afford sum of the expensive software/hardware that can be used too produce drum and bass id recommend going on the torrent sites and downloading it neway lol most of these generators can be cracked with a bit of patience massive was alot of effort tho and it needs recracking regularly however its not the generators that make the tune simply by being creative with what you have can reproduce good drum and bass at a fractionof the cost its always worth getting sum better kit but in the event u cant access ne of the stuff just do ur research on what you have i use fruityloops eight with millions of samples i downloaded and got from magasines and i stole most of the generators off of isohunt.com however i find myself going back too the stuff i started with alot id recommend three osc too any fruityloops user out there playing with the envelopes on there can create sum sick noises that i have heard in many drum and bass tunes to date,in answer too the question about reason 4 because u cant access generators unless u rewire intoo fruity or cubase id suggest downloading reason refill packs which are noises and samples that will work solely in reason and there are plenty of them out there
is use fruityloops as a sequencer korg legacy nexus vanguard dimension le (and im downloading pro at the moment i also have a few other nifty plugins that were free i just typed in google free vst i also have a few hundred drum and bass breakloops which i cut and slice too get the beats i want i hope this helps
korg legacy has a nice noise on it called dnb reverse base maybe if u tweaked with that u wud get what u wanted old plugin but very good once u know how too manipulate the sounds

wow! thanks everyone for your tips and advice. I got a copy of Massive a little while ago that someone very kindly gave me. I never could figure out how the crack worked on it but I tried and tried several times and in the end I just gave up trying to crack it, although I did have a really good mess around with the demo and loved it.
I got Ableton 7 and I got a copy of that Albino3 VST. I have been messing around with that and found thats got some lush sounds (pads especially). I have been rewiring reason into Ableton to try and get round Reason's restrictions (and there are quite a few) I will try and get hold of the korg legacy plug in. You are the second person who has mentioned that so Im going to have to try and get a copy of that. I am going to scan the net and try to find as much VSTs and reason refills I can.
I bought that Dark Combinations refill a few months ago and it is ace but also has its restrictions so I just use their ideas as a guide and expand on it to try and make the sound I need but I guess its mainly going to be trying different ideas & different resources until I get the sound im after.
I really really appreciate you lot taking the time to try and point me in the right direction so thanks alot. Speak to you later everyone. Im going to go and get some refills..
