"People who drive after taking illegal drugs could be banned for a year and fined up to Ŗ5,000 - even if there is no evidence that their driving was impaired.
The Government is considering a new offence under which police would need to prove only that drivers had taken a banned drug.
As traces of drugs can stay in the body for several weeks, drivers could find themselves convicted of the new offence long after taking a substance."
So, have a smoke on friday night, drive to work monday morning, get randomly pulled over and tested under the new powers, get banned and fined five grand for "drug driving"! What have the government been smoking?!?

Yep tis true, I'll be fucked if they test me and not for the weekend and party antics but for all the painkillers i take. if i get tested i'll show up as a smackhead. codeines a great painkiller but shows up on drugs tests as an opiate. Does this mean a year ban and a 5k fine coming my way....lol

Yeah Techy IIRC codiene does show up as opiate (i.e heroin) on those tests, Ive even heard of poppy seeds on a bun giving a false positive.

There's far too much black+white enforcement going on these days, for so many things. Theres no grey area or tolerance any more, and life is poorer as a result.
